Fixing an Incorrect Address on an Employee's W-2
While not a critical tax error, an incorrect address on a W-2 should be corrected to ensure the employee has the proper documentation for their records. The Social Security Administration does not use employee addresses for their records, so this correction does not need to be filed with the SSA.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open W2Correction Mate and either create a new company or open an existing one.
- Click on the W-2C Forms Tab and then click Add W-2C Form.
- Enter the employee information, using the correct address, and original W-2 data.
- Verify the information, and click Save.
- To print the employee's copy, select the W-2C Forms tab, select the employee from the list, click Print. In the dialog, select "Copy B—To Be Filed With Employee’s FEDERAL Tax Return".
- Do not file this with the SSA as it is not required for address changes.
