Nebraska’s Paid Sick Leave Law Will Take Effect in 2025

Nebraska voters have approved the 2025 paid sick leave (Initiative 436) ballot measure.

Summary of the new measure:

1. Nebraska employees are eligible for paid sick time for their own health or to care for family members.
2. Employees of businesses with fewer than 20 employees would accrue and use up to 40 hours per year of paid sick time-and employees in businesses with 20 or more employees would accrue and use up to 56 hours.
3. Include conditions regarding the use of paid sick time.
4. Prohibit any actions against employees who assert their rights under this law.
5. Establish requirements for documentation on paid sick leave.
6. Provide enforcement mechanisms and actions for violations.
7. NE Employers begin providing paid sick time to employees on Oct. 1, 2025.
