In early October 2024, the Indiana Department of Revenue published the revised 2024 EFW2 (W-2 Electronic Filing) guide. This updated document outlines the requirements for electronically submitting W-2 information to the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) regarding state and county taxes withheld from Indiana residents. The guide includes important information such as:
- File Format: The guide specifies that data files must be in text format and follow the 2024 EFW2 layout.
- Record Types: It outlines the necessary 2024 record types, including RA through RF Records.
- State-Specific Requirements: The guide highlights Indiana’s specific deviations from federal specifications, particularly in the “Code RS: State Record” section.
- Deadline: The filing deadline for 2024 is January 31 2025.
- Electronic Filing Mandate: Employers or entities filing more than 25 withholding statements are required to file electronically.
