Changes made to the W2 Form in the tax year 2005.

  1. Code Q (Nontaxable combat pay) was added to the list of box 12 codes on Form W2 for use by military employers.

  2. Code Y (Deferrals under a section 409A nonqualified deferred compensation plan) was added to the list of box 12 codes on IRS Form W2.

  3. Code Z (Income under section 409A on a nonqualified deferred compensation plan) was added to the list of box 12 codes on the W2 form.

  4. A new section that got added by the American Jobs Creation Act in 2004, provides that "all amounts deferred under a nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC) plan for all taxable years are currently includible in gross income unless certain requirements are satisfied". The section number is 409A.

  5. Calendar year 2005 was the last year the SSA (Social Security Administration) accepted ½ - inch magnetic tapes or cartridges.

2005 Tax Calendar

  1. January 31st 2005 : Deadline for employers to produce W-2's and 1099's.

  2. March 15th 2005 : Deadline for calendar year corporations to file a 2004 income tax return or request an extension of time.

  3. April 15th 2005 : Deadline for individuals to file 2004 income tax returns.
