What's new for 2006 W2 Forms
The SSA added Employee instructions to Copy 2 (To Be Filed With Employee’s State, City, or Local Income Tax Return Copy).
The Social Security Administration also made the employee instructions on the back of Copy C (For EMPLOYEE’S RECORDS) easier to read by increasing the font size and continuing the instructions on the back of Copy 2.
New Codes added to box 12:
BB: Added to report designated Roth contributions under a section 403(b) salary reduction agreement.
AA: Added to report designated Roth contributions to a section 401(k) plan.
For more information about these two codes, please refer to the 2006 W2 Forms instructions available through the IRS website or by calling the SSA at 1-800-772-6270.
A new checkbox got added to box b of 2006 W3 Forms. The new box is for IRS Tax Form 944. This form is designed to be used by small businesses with an annual employment tax liability of $1,000 or less. If a business qualifies to use this form then form 944 will replace the Form 941 (Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return), and be filed once a year.
A new separate entry field to box e (employee's name) was added to 2006 W2 forms and later years. This field can be used to specify employee suffix names such as "Jr." or "Sr."
